I was sixteen when I got pregnant by my first love, the guy that I thought I would marry someday. My son is now six, and his father didn't turn out to be that prince charming. It turned out to be a pretty bad relationship, and at this point, he has very little involvement with my son. None-the-less, the main point of my story is to let all the girls out there know that it is not the end of your dreams. If you work hard you can overcome any obstacles. You might have to work a little harder and it might take it little longer, but the rewards are numerous. This is my life: I worked fulltime and continued to attend high school on an irregular basis. I have one deceased parent and another who is considered mentally unstable, so help and guidance was not provided to me. I have been fortunate enough to be a determined individual so I did end up graduating on time...although with poor grades. I went on to a Technical college and recently received my associates in Marketing while working full-time and living on my own. I never relied on assistance to make it by and let me tell you...times were definitely tough. At times I worked two jobs, went to school, and donated plasma on a regular basis just to make ends meet. Somehow, we always made it through.

My son has grown up to be a wonderful young man. He is caring, respectful, and very good natured. I am so proud of him. I have definitely been blessed. He is involved with hockey in winters and soccer in summers (I’ve picked up the sport now, too). He started out first grade this year, and I made the decision to go to Wisconsin University to earn my Bachelors, and have an ultimate goal to receive my masters in Physical Therapy. I am in my first semester and feel so fortunate to be there. We come home and share our school days together. Of all the times that I thought this was so hard… being a single parent; it has made me realize that I could not have done it without him. He is my motivation and determination. He is my achievement and my reward.
